DuckDuckGo (DDG) is a private search engine seeing exponential growth
Since its inception only a few years ago DDG (DuckDuckGo) has seen exponential growth. Rand Fishkin of Moz has said it will be “the fastest growing search engine of 2016”.
It is still no real threat to Google who still dominate search, but it is seeing impressive growth:-
- It averages 10m queries a day
- 12m queries in a single day last December
- 350m queries last month
- 3.41bn queries last year
- 73% growth in 2015
- 22% increase in traffic from January to December 2015
- Tech fans love it
- Average bounce rate is 31%
- Average time on site is 9.5 minutes
- It offers people what Google can’t (and won’t): true privacy
- It does other things that Google can’t
- It’s the default search engine in the new Adblock Browser for mobile
- It has signed the Acceptable Ads Manifesto
- It makes money without tracking people
DDG is not going to overtake Google but is not just a political flash in the pan either. It is a profitable business and with all the recent concerns about privacy, ad-blocking and tracking it could well prove to be a worthy competitor to Google.
