What effect does Url shorteners have on your SEO?

Since Google and other major search engines confirmed their increasing inclusion of social signals in their search algorithms there was and still seems to be some concern over the effect they might have on search engine optimisation.

Posted last December entitled Not all Url Shortening Services are Equal highlighting the importance of choosing the correct one. It is even more important as using many 3rd party shortening services, which run on your own domain, could be detrimental in passing valuable link juice.

Make sure it’s a 301 redirect for SEO

Google’s Matt Cutts confirms that using the right type of shortening service, one that uses a 301 redirect, will not harm your seo efforts.
